Software for Building Web Pages

  • Microsoft Word using "Save as HTML" option.
    • Pro - already available to us.
    • Con - Makes web pages that might not view properly (or "as well") with browsers other than Internet Explorer.
  • Netscape Composer - ver. 4.x on ERAU systems
    • Pro - already available
    • Con - Somewhat out of date, but still makes good simple pages.
  • Microsoft Frontpage
    • Pro - Available to University community (home and work)
    • Con -  Makes web pages that might not view properly (or "as well") with browsers other than Internet Explorer..
  • Mozilla Composer - freely available from http://mozilla.org/
    • Pro - Freely available, based on Netscape core technology; good for new user.
    • Con - Less features than Frontpage

Software for Working with Images

  • AFPL Ghostscript  and GSview 

    • http://www.cs.wisc.edu/%7Eghost/doc/AFPL/index.htm
    • for Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 or XP
      • You will need to obtain and run the self-extracting EXE
      • gs811w32.exe, AFPL Ghostscript 8.11 for Win32 8375296 bytes
      • You can unzip with WinZip or a similar program if you want to check the contents.
      • It is recommended that you also install GSview, a graphical interface to Ghostscript.
      • gsv44w32.exe, GSview 4.4 for Win32 1570816 bytes
