The objective of this assignment is to identify fog in satellite imagery.

1. Download a high resolution Visible image of a location showing fog not obscured by higher clouds.  Download a simultaneous IR image showing that these clouds are close to the surface temperature and do not represent cold clouds.  Label the fog areas on BOTH images.  Remember: fog should be barely detectable on the IR image!  If it clearly shows up on the IR, it may not be fog!  Do not use an image where there are high clouds covering the fog.

2. Download a surface map, weather depiction chart, or observations DOCUMENTING that there is fog (three bars on a wx map or FG on a metar)  in the area of your satellite image. [Do not use a "mist" situation--two bars on wx map or BR on a metar!!!]
