Viewing an enhancement table like the one above can get confusing when color levels change quickly. The gray bar located below the corresponding IR image is a simpler way of looking at the same enhancement curve. The brightness levels increase going left to right on the image.

Color enhancements are only different than black and white enhancements in that image gray level inputs are converted to outputs with varying levels of red, green and blue pixel values Color enhancements allow for more freedom to enhance the full temperature range with as much contrast as possible. This color enhancement was designed to enhance the contrast of the warmer regions while emphasizing the cold cloud tops. See for comparison, the regular MB enhanced image.
